The Tower of Silence
Zoroastrianism is an Iranian religion. It is one of the world’s oldest organized faiths. People who subscribe to the faith believe that the Earth and fire are both sacred. In consequence, both burning and cremating the dead are not permitted! As a result, Zoroastrians have their own solution for putting the dead to rest.

They built the Dakhma, which translates to the Tower of Silence. The Dakhma is a raised circular structure where the dead are laid to rest inside. The opening allowed carrion birds to scavenge the remains, thus completing the circle of life and transferring energy. This allows the soil to remain at its purest.
